【Special Event】NAKED’s Garden of Japanese Lights at Heian Jingu Shrine⌇ Enjoy Historical Architecture Illuminated with Nighttime Charm in Kimono

This Winter, at the Heian Jingu Shrine, designated as National Scenic Beauties, will transform into a magical world through the light art of the creative company NAKED, INC.

Experience the fusion of tradition and cutting-edge technology at the historic Japanese gardens, Higashi Shin-en and Naka Shin-en. Marvel at projection mapping on the Shobikan and the illuminated Soryu Pond, creating a magical ambiance. Immerse yourself in a tranquil moment, surrounded by a garden woven with light.

About Kimono Rental

Kimono
A wide variety of kimonos is available, including classical, cute, and elegant floral patterns, as well as lace kimonos, allowing you to freely pair them with your favorite obi belt.

Basically hanhaba-obi belt with ribbon at the back, or +1100yen change to Otaiko-Obi Belt.
Additional Essential Accessories
Tabi (Japanese socks), Zori (Japanese sandals), a small Japanese-style pouch, and all necessary underslips are included.

For those thinking, “I won’t be able to return my kimono in time because it’s a night event,” don’t worry!
Yumeyakata offers Next-Day Return and Return by Post services.
*For same-day returns, the kimono must be returned by 5:30 p.m.

If you make your store reservation after 12 PM, you can return the kimono the next day for free (between 9 AM to 5 PM). Additionally, return by post is available from hotels or convenience stores for just ¥880.

Encounter a Dreamlike Japanese Garden in Kyoto’s Winter Light Show

Highlight 1: Ōten-mon Gate Illumination

The iconic Otenmon Gate, designated as an Important Cultural Property, is illuminated in a dynamic display that accentuates its architectural beauty, bringing out the vivid red and vermilion hues of this central gate of Heian Jingu Shrine.

Highlight 2: Soryu Pond Illumination

With the concept of “riding the back of the dragon and dancing in the clouds reflected in the pond,” the majestic Soryu Pond is transformed into an enchanting scene with mist and illumination, enhancing its powerful beauty.

Highlight 3: Projection Mapping

At Shobikan Pavilion, near Seihō Pond, the four guardian gods of Heian Kyo are displayed in projection mapping alongside seasonal Japanese lights, creating a captivating scene reflecting off the water. This garden landscape, complemented by the lighting, offers a magical view unique to the night.

Highlight 4: Kosai Wagasa (Radiant Japanese Umbrella)

Traditional Japanese umbrellas crafted by Hiyoshiya, a historic establishment founded in the Edo period, light up Heian Jingu Shrine’s grounds as part of the light art display. These umbrellas, crafted with over 160 years of tradition, emit a warm, gentle glow, bringing a sense of warmth and tranquility to the night, welcoming visitors.

Highlight 5: Fuyubi Lantern (Winter Illumination Lantern)

In Higashi Shin’en, Kyoto lanterns illuminate the grounds with a magical glow. These lanterns are a collaborative creation by Kojima Shoten and Kojima-an, both boasting over 200 years of history dating back to the Edo period.The elegant light of the lanterns, along with the pine trees symbolizing longevity in Higashi Shin’en, warmly envelops visitors.

Highlight 6: Lantern interactive

Positioning a ‘NAKED Distance Lantern®’ at specified spots changes the colors of the lanterns suspended from Taihei-kaku Bridge, along with the patterns projected on the ground, creating a unique interactive art experience.

Highlight 7: NAKED Distance Lantern®

Participatory and interactive art lanterns created by NAKED. Visitors can become a part of the surrounding art displays through the different patterns of light cast at their feet from the lanterns.
