Ever since the Heain (平安) era, the Sagano (嵯峨野) area was loved by noblemen for its beautiful scenery. They composed and recited poems and enjoyed their leisure time at their villas. Within that area, the Saga-Toriimoto (嵯峨鳥居本) district is designated as the national important preservation district of historic buildings. Its beautiful scenery attracts many visitors through the year.
The area is now changing its face into the autumn colors. The Sagano represents the autumn in Kyoto.
