At this time of the year, many liquor stores and breweries hang Sugidama (杉玉, ceder ball) under the eaves. If you are a Sake (酒, Japanese rice wine) lover like me, you might have seen that.
The Sugidama are made at the time of preparation for new Sake of the year with fresh green sprigs of Japanese cedar. When the vivid green color changes into faded brown, it tells people that the new brew of Sake is finally made.
Kyoto, blessed with quality ground water indispensable for Sake brewing, is the most renowned place for Sake. Good Sake is so delicious!
